Here's the secret to managing the negative voice in your head

There's no need to shut that voice up.

That voice is actually trying to protect you. Ok, it may have a twisted way of going about it, but all it is trying to do is keep you safe.

It'll be a pattern instilled when you were young, appropriate to the time at which it was created.

Like outdated software, it is no longer fit for purpose – and you have other resources now that will be able to do the job much better.

The point is, the voice is coming from a good place and the more you resist it, the louder it will get.

Instead of shutting it up – or getting angry with it. Thank it.

Appreciate it for what it's done for you in the past.

And let it know that it's done its job well and can rest now, as you've got it covered elsewhere.

That may mean visualising how things will play out if your voice's worst fears are realised – to gain the inner confidence you need to know that all will be fine.

From there, your voice will calm down and fade into the background. As long as it knows you're safe, there's no need for it to be there.

So don't resist your voice. Don't try to shut it up.

Listen to it, find the fear, explore the consequences and know that you can handle whatever life throws at you.
