During the meetings last month, the theme under discussion was “Inner Confidence”.

We explored how we reacted to the following question. Not how did we answer it, but how we reacted to it.

“Who do you think you are to do what you do?”

Here are some of the things that cropped up in our discussions.

Inner Confidence

There is an automatic reaction to defend it logically but then I realised I had to work through the emotional element.

My head gets in the way. Then I press through and I intuit authentically.

What's the voice in your head saying?
e.g “That's all very well, but you're a bit crap”

Lockdown has been the first time I've really stopped and looked at myself.

Imposter Syndrome vs Not Good Enough Syndrome. Are they different?

And is there a difference between Imposter Syndrome in employed and self-employed people?
It still exists but they have different nuances.
Employed is a bit more “One day I'll be found out” whereas Self Employed is a bit more “Will I be able to do it?”

There is now scientific evidence that Imposter Syndrome is a benefit. It makes you better at your job.

Antifragile. Something that flourishes in chaos and disorder. Post Traumatic Growth.
Anti-fragile values. Forgiveness, flexibility, humility

Live into the “worst-case” space and find a way to be happy about it.

Slowing down allows us to access our intuition.

Then we can design our thoughts.

The brain will look for evidence to prove our thoughts are right.

Listen more to your head, heart and gut. But if one is in pain, you may get the wrong message.

Sit in silence to really hear what your head thinks.

Indulge yourself with self care to be able to really hear what your heart feels.

Fast for 24 hours and then note what your gut really wants.

Make it your mission to be the best at imposter syndrome.

What if..?
Change “What if?” to “Even if”
Let's find out !!

WHY NOT ME!!
I'm an expert in my field and I know what works
I'm me and that's ok. I'm comfortable in my own story.

Many people want to be successful in their parents’ eyes – or what they think their parents perceive to be successful.
In truth, they just want you to be happy.

Living in beliefs means that we are living in the past.
The past is not real now. It has no bearing on today.

Authentic vs being different in different contexts?

The Japanese have the concept of 3 selves.

1 for work, 1 for our family and 1 for ourselves only

We have roles that we play and we can still be us within

Emotional connection to business decisions and pricing.
When someone else took over that side of the business, they doubled the price and demand actually increased.

When does caring too much become controlling?
When there's an attachment to being right

My purpose is my boss and it allows me to do my job.
