During the meetings last month, the theme under discussion was “Find Your Purpose”.

This time we explored the following concept:

“A Purposeful Business Can Lead to Higher Levels of Guilt”

Here are some of the things that cropped up in our discussions.

There’s no order or explanations - it’s more like a stream of consciousness but you can use the statements and questions to reflect on your own situation and do some inner work.

Higher Purpose = Higher Guilt

I learned to use the guilt

Hold the fire that's inside me and guides me and just be mindful of the edges and not to be too bad to myself.

Purpose is part of something continuous, part of nature. Our role is to not obstruct it and that allows it to run free and move at a pace that it wants to run at.

The search for purpose can be stressful if we're not careful. However, it's part of who we are. So if you're feeling that you should be someone other than who you are, then you won't find it and it will be stressful.

Only I can get in my own way so if I have turned up then all I can do is meet my responsibility as much as I can.

Be mindful to balance the drive with other values such as family etc.

When there is ego attached to me being the person who achieves it, then I get in the way.

In delivering the service on the path to purpose, also need to value self.

The industrial revolution set the path running for the myth that only hard work can be valued.

If there is joy in what I do, then Play Time is Pay Time.

Explore the concept of a Fun Based Fee

Covid has been a great excuse for lowering service levels.

Need to get better at “being at ease with myself”

Compare a 'should do list', a 'like to do list', a 'what don't I have to do list' and the 'avoid at all costs' list.

For a project, pull out the first 1 or 2 steps.

Guilt comes from within and impacts upon priorities.

If the head says “Do it! Do it! Do it!” - then deliberately don't do it and get a different perspective.

Why have it on your list at all?

Enjoy being out of control

The more that my clients don't do what they should, the more I feel like a failure.

We've now created an Aspiration Wall collaboratively.

I've invested heart and soul to give them what they need to succeed.

Focus on the process and the results will come.

I don't want to let them down, but I've set the bar too high for myself.

Encourage them to take the initiative.

Look after self as you can't flow from an empty cup.

Being bad at managing people allows you to become a better leader.

What happens when it doesn't go well? It's up to me to keep pushing.

Difference between what I want and what they want.

Am I helping others to fill my void?

Can you be proud of what you've done?

There is a view that the first third of life is about self-image, the second third is about giving to others and the final third is about neither.

The purpose of life is to live it.
